To try to make the poems more accessible I’m building a gallery page so I need to re publish the first 4 poems I wrote for NaPoWriMo
April 1 – The challenge to look at things differently, reminded me that what we see is subjective and that other organisms and devices have different sensitivities to electromagnetic radiation. This moved me to consider closed and open mindsets.
Limitations
Oh yes there’s stars and planets
Yes, the universe is vast
But it’s limits are not infinite
Think about that Big Bang blast
Meteor Showers and Icy Comets
Pass close by predictably
And if you have a dark sky
You can see our Galaxy
Thanks to Physics
Our exploring goes beyond the naked eye
Binoculars and telescopes
Their targets magnify
Now we can ‘view’’ beyond our extent
Of the visible light range
The electromagnetic spectrum
Now yields images most strange
False colour ones prepared from X-rays
Infra-Red and UV too
And massive radio dishes
Help us build on what we knew
Telescopes beyond the atmosphere
‘See’ Pulsars, Quasars and Black Holes
We stand on the Shoulders of Giants
Moving our discovery goals
And we’ve probed our Solar System
Flyby, Lander and Mars Rover
Sending back their precious data
To be processed and chewed over
And yet fifty years later
There are those that still deny
Our human race stepped on the Moon
Conspiracy! They cry
As for intelligent life elsewhere
“There’s nothing else but here”
We’re allowed our own opinion
But if I may bend your ear
Just imagine that there’s two small fish
Down in the ocean depth
Limited in exploration
Are they correct to accept
Their mutual conclusion
That outside their watery zone
There nothing more of interest
‘Of that we’ve always known’
