Lockdown Living – Housekeeping

To try to make the poems more accessible I’m building a gallery page so I need to re publish the first 4 poems I wrote for NaPoWriMo

April 2 – The prompt to look at different pathways, presented much to reflect on.

Que sera sera

From a litter of six I chose him

His blue eyes oh so cute

In our family it’s a running joke

About that path I took

He’s no affection whatsoever

Never wants a stroke

A manifestation of indifference

Quite unimpressed by folk

Any interest in you is simply so

His food bowl stays replete

Then it’s back to the aloofness

‘Til he wants some more to eat

As a rule that’s minutes later

He’s got those hollow legs

He pesters, nags and fusses

He begs and begs and begs

If his demands go unrespected

The furniture he’ll wreck

A huge source of irritation

Yes, a real pain in the neck

Outside he’s a great climber

And his curiosity

Has seen him trapped in neighbours sheds

For a day or three

In those times I suspect that

He did what he does the best

Find somewhere warm to curl up

And have a peaceful rest

While outside I search frantically

Oh what fate has he met?

Like the time he got run over

And as we drove him to the vet

He looked up from his blanket

Full of shock and traumatised

And I really think that once I saw

Some tears were in his eyes

One metal hip joint later

Bank balance much gone down

Soon fully back to his old self

And wrecks my dressing gown

With all that constant pulling

He’s handy with his claws

To get him in his cat box

Becomes a painful chore

As he walks right past me one more time

Again I stop to wonder

With a free choice from that litter

Should I have picked another?

Our life’s full of decisions

But I much suspect, that day

I had no say, yes he chose me!

And I’m glad it’s been that way

Day 3 April 3

April 3 – The 50 card prompt suggested I share a thought I had yesterday while planting seeds.

My Horticultural Paradox

So carefully tended from day one

Sown at the given measure

Resplendence anticipated

Perfumatory pleasure

Precisely irrigated

Environment sustained

Nourishment by phosphates

Support by bamboo canes

Thinned out periodically

Pinched out just the once

Attentions well rewarded

Pick bunch after bunch

Still I remain astounded

When neglecting all those needs

There’s a healthy representation

Of a variety of weeds

Lockdown Living – Today’s Poem April 16th

Nice and easy today, just my sort of think. Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt is to write a Skeltonic and what better subject?

He scares the hell out of me doing this but that’s how content he is!

There’s only one Ralph Biscuit

My rabbit is really funny

Not like any other bunny

Because whenever it is sunny

He flops down on his tummy

Making his body really flat

I begin to worry that

He really has gone splat

Like a white, plush furry mat

He once bit a cat it’s true

And ended up rescue

So when we went to view

He was indoors feeling blue

Perhaps coz of his red eyes

Folks would not compromise

It came as a surprise

We began to realise

He’d been there for a year

Waiting for the Sun to appear

With his lion mane headgear

We found him rather dear

I built him a large run

Now he’s such a happy bun

Says hello to everyone

Come rain or snow or sun

Because he’s so nosey

From the place where he’s cosy

He’ll have a little mosey

Making sure that all is rosy

So much grass will he get through

It’s hard to keep up and renew

He’ll chew and chew and chew

In the evening he’ll turn to

His daily dinner treat

All the things he likes to eat

His diet balanced and complete

And thus he will always greet

By rushing up his ramp

Faster than a sprinting champ

But if unhappy he will stamp

So don’t try to revamp

His collection of toys

Or he’ll make a grunting noise

Yes that really annoys

It makes him lose his poise

Overall, this little chap

Has a penchant for a nap

With everything on tap

There’s no need for a flap

Such a character is he

I don’t know where I’d be

If I didn’t daily see

Him outside beside the tree

Here’s to many more fun days

Watching Ralphie as he plays

And hours where he’s at graze

I wouldn’t have it anyotherwaze
